SPANK THE MONKEY

Two days and two posts about monkeys??

Last night we were invited to the opening of SPANK THE MONKEY - The exhibition was the first serious international examination of urban and suburban art bridging the gap between the street and the traditional art space. With strong links to graphic design, graffiti, manga comics, skateboarding and surfing this group show includes artists based in urban centres across the world.

Spank the Monkey presents twenty-two artists from urban centres across the world. Including: Chiho Aoshima, Banksy, Dzine, Dr. Lakra, FAILE, Freaks Gallery, Shepard Fairey, Groovisions, Invader, Kozyndan, Barry Mcgee, Ryan Mcginness, Takashi Murakami, Miss Van, Neasden Control Centre, Os Gemeos, David Shrigley, Natasha Struchkova, Swoon, Aya Takano, Ed Templeton,Yasumasa Yonehara.

A good night was had by all! There was a load of homies in attendance - Kev (Mischief team rider, dude in the helmet), Bing (Mischief Skate Store, with the beer), Andy (Psyche, yellow tee, camo jacket), Simon (Obey, white shirt), Paul (Hype Type Studio, behind me on the phone), Sam (FUSS, my brother, in the cracked out TV room) and a load of others who are not pictured.

S'mores

Out for dinner last night, ended up eating S'mores! I had no idea what they were until they turned up! Have a read HERE to see what I'm talking about. The green stuff in the bowl is actually a gel which is on fire so you can melt your chocolate and toast the marshmallows.

Rodeo Drive / Christopher Wallace / John Wayne

Went to checkout the famous Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Then over to Hollywood to see the stars! I was stoked on John Wayne! The image above with the 6100 building and black vehicle in front is the very place that Christopher Wallace AKA Notorious B.I.G. was shot! For those who don't know here's what happened:

Combs, in the lead, blew through the amber light at Wilshire as the signal turned red and Biggie's vehicle stopped on the south side of the intersection. A white Toyota Land Cruiser promptly made a U-turn and tried to cut between Biggie and a trailing Chevy Blazer driven by Bad Boy's director of security. At that moment, a black Impala SS pulled up on the Suburban's right side. The driver, alone in the sedan, was a black male whose blue suit, bow tie and fade haircut suggested Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam sect. He looked B.I.G. in the eye for a moment, then reached across his body with a blue-steel automatic pistol held in his right hand, braced it against his left forearm and emptied the gun into the front passenger seat of the Suburban. B.I.G. was the only passenger in the vehicle hit by the bullets. As the Impala sped away, heading east on Wilshire, the Land Cruiser made another U-turn and drove off. The Suburban in which Combs rode slowed nearly to a stop when Story heard the gunshots. Everyone inside ducked, then someone shouted that B.I.G. was under attack. Combs jumped out of the vehicle and ran across Wilshire to the green Suburban. When he opened the passenger-side door, Combs saw B.I.G. hunched over the dashboard with his tongue hanging out of his mouth, bleeding through his jacket. He spoke to B.I.G., Combs told police, but his friend just stared back, eyes open and blank. The terrified Combs jumped into the Suburban behind B.I.G., while Story pushed G-Money aside and drove the vehicle to the emergency dock of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, less than five minutes away. At the hospital, it took six people to lift B.I.G. onto a gurney. Doctors rushed him into surgery as Combs and the others dropped to their knees and prayed, but B.I.G. was pronounced dead at 1:15 a.m.

Finally Paul got ready for his date at the Blue Oyster. It took him ages to straighten his long back but worth it I thought?
